CLI is supporting two new use cases

We are very happy to announce that the Climate Ledger Initiative has decided to support two new use cases: Your VCCA Impact Dashboard and Yoma Ground Truthing.

Working with concrete use cases that show real-life applications of digital innovations to drive climate action is one of the cornerstones of the CLI approach. CLI use cases are based on solid concepts and robust partnerships, enabling systematic extraction of valuable learnings that can benefit fellow practitioners in the field, technology developers, and policymakers alike. In 2023 the CLI is supporting two new use cases in the field of resilient agriculture and land use monitoring.

Your VCCA Impact Dashboard: Postharvest losses of farmers due to the lack of a proper cold chain solutions to store their crops result in income losses and unnecessary food waste and carbon emissions. To tackle this issue the BASE Foundation and Empa have launched the “Coldtivate App” - a digital tool to improve the cold room management - under the Your Virtual Cold Chain Assistant (Your VCCA) program. With the support from the Climate Ledger Initiative, Your VCCA is now working on integrating a new Impact Dashboard on its Coldtivate App, allowing cooling companies to visualise the business and environmental impact of solar-powered cold storage and help farmers to take better decisions on when to store and sell their produce, thus improving farmer livelihoods.

Yoma Ground Truthing: Monitoring land use change at the landscape level requires the use of remote sensing. However, satellite and drone data need to be calibrated and validated with ground truth data – the collection of which is a vital yet laboursome task. UNICEF, the Wyss Academy for Nature as well as the European Space Agency (ESA), remote sensing specialists and the CLI have joined forces to verify the concept of scaling ground truthing efforts by engaging young people in land use monitoring through a digital platform.
